Pavel Semyonovich Zhukov

Pavel Semyonovich Zhukov ( Russian Павел Семёнович Жуков ; 1870 - 1942 ) was a Russian photographer.

Life

Zhukov learned his trade in Konstantin Schapiro's studio, where he took portraits. With the support of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts , he set up his own studio. He took portraits of numerous artists, including Anton Chekhov and Tchaikovsky. After the October Revolution of 1917, Zhukov began painting portraits of politicians. He photographed Lenin sitting on a chair.

In the 30s Pavel Zhukov worked as a photo reporter. During the Leningrad blockade , his house was hit by an artillery shell. Zhukov died and many of his negatives were destroyed.
