Pavlovsky Bay

The Pavlovsky Bay ( Russian Бухта Павловского , Buchta Pawlowskowo ) is located about 55 km southeast of Vladivostok , on the eastern bank of the Strelok Bay on the Sea of Japan .

Naval base

In the bay there is a naval base of the Russian Pacific Fleet . A number of decommissioned nuclear submarines are also lying here. In 1995 there were 19 boats, in September 1997 21 and in December 2000 16 boats.

Submarine bunker

In addition, there is an unfinished submarine bunker that can be compared to the Balaklawa submarine bunker . This was supposedly started in 1977 and in 1991 under the START I contract the construction was canceled. According to other sources, the construction was stopped because new, larger diesel submarines were put into service during the construction period and they no longer fit in the bunker or that the USA developed a new weapon that could destroy the bunker. The tunnel system was completed before construction was stopped, but the interior work was not completed. The bunker consists mainly of a straight tunnel about 650 meters long into which the submarines could have entered. This main tunnel has a driveway at both ends, one of which should open into the sea and the other into the naval base. However, on the side facing the sea, these approaches were not even dug to the sea and on the base side they were again made inaccessible to watercraft by means of masses of earth. According to one source, this was done to comply with the START I contract.
