Pawtuckaway State Park is a 20 km² nature reserve in New Hampshire . It is one of the largest state parks in the southeast of the state and is named after Pawtuckaway Lake and the Pawtuckaway Mountains.

geology

The Pawtuckaway Mountains are a small, rocky mountain range in the shape of a circle that forms the outer line of a primeval volcanic crater ring. The crater ring, which was first completely mapped in 1944, is a smaller and therefore more accessible example of the geological processes that have caused the Ossipee Mountains further north.

Hiking trails lead to the approximately two hundred meter high peaks of the northern and southern chain of hills and connect the crater ring with the lake. This has a 317 hectare water area with various bays and small islands and is popular with water sports enthusiasts and anglers alike. The area is also a destination for fans of orienteering and climbing.

The park facilities include camping facilities, around 24 km of hiking trails, a boat dock, a natural swimming pool, a playground, a sports field, picnic tables, shelters and the rental of canoes and rowing boats.
