Payam (administrative unit)

Payam is a mid-level sub-county administrative unit in South Sudan . Payams must have at least 25,000 residents. They are further divided into a variable number of bomas . In 2017 there were 540 payams and 2500 bomas in South Sudan .

The administrative unit was divided by the Armed Forces of South Sudan (SPLM / A) and ratified by the National Convention of New Sudan . The comparable unit in neighboring Kenya and Uganda is the sub-county.
