Payleven was a mobile payment provider founded in 2012 and based in Berlin and London . Payleven made it possible for traders to process debit and credit card payments using smartphones or tablets. The Fintech - startup company was active in ten European countries: in addition to Germany and the UK also in Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland and Spain. In 2012 Payleven expanded to Brazil. In April 2016, Payleven was taken over by its competitor Sumup .

Products

The Payleven mobile payment system is app- based and can be processed with two different devices: with Swipe & Sign and Chip & PIN . The app is free and compatible with iOS and Android devices.

Swipe & Sign

Swipe & Sign consisted of a plug-in module, the so-called dongle, which was attached to either the smartphone or the tablet. After the card was swiped through the magnetic stripe reader, the customer signed on the smartphone or tablet and the transaction was completed by sending the receipt by email. Swipe & Sign was recently no longer offered because it no longer meets the security requirements.

Chip & PIN

With the introduction of Chip & PIN , Payleven was the first provider in mainland Europe to accept all debit and credit cards. The mobile card reader is a separate device that is connected to the smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth and enables the personal PIN to be entered on a keypad.

In spring 2014, Payleven announced that it would bring a card terminal onto the market that would enable card payments via an NFC interface.
