Pedro Bacelar de Vasconcelos

Pedro Bacelar de Vasconcelos is a Portuguese constitutional lawyer. He is an Associate Professor at Minho University .

Career

Vasconcelos graduated in 1982, received his master's degree in 1990 and his doctorate in law and political science in 1996 from the Law Faculty of Coimbra . From 1983 to 1995 he worked as an assistant at the University of Minho and in 1996 was Governador civil of Braga .

Vasconcelos is a professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Minho, was special envoy of the European Union for the transition process for democracy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo , member of the administrative board of the European Monitoring Center on Racism, Xenophobia and Anti-Semitism in Vienna and Vice-President of the Convention for the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

He is a member of the National Commission for the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is a member of the Supreme Council of the Public Prosecutor's Office and an honorary member of the União Romani, the national association of the Gypsy community in Portugal.

Vasconcelos was one of the drafters of the East Timorese Constitution of 2002 , worked for the President of East Timor and at UNTAET as a consultant for the United Nations . In 2011 he was part of the team of authors who prepared the 2011 edition of the Annotated Constitution of East Timor, which was edited by the Law Faculty of Minho University.
