Pedro Nolasco Estrada Aristondo

Pedro Nolasco Estrada Aristondo († 1804 ) is a conductor and composer from Guatemala .

Life

Together with his brothers José and Mariano, Aristondo received his musical training as an apprentice from Rafael Antonio Castellanos , conductor of the cathedral of Santiago de Guatemala (today Antigua Guatemala ). From the beginning of the 1780s he was violinist and singer in the chapel in the cathedral of today's Guatemala City , where the capital was moved after the earthquake of 1773. In 1797 he was appointed conductor of the cathedral, and documents of the time praise his talent as director of the choir and orchestra. He also emerged as a composer of cantatas , villancicos and Latin church music.
