PeerIndex (English peer: look, peek, stare) is a company based in London , Great Britain , which uses the analysis of social networks (for example: Twitter and Facebook ) to create user ratings ( reputation ).

PeerIndex is very similar to Klout and the system is currently running in a beta version . Founders: Azeem Azhar, Ditlev Schwanenflügel and Bill Emmott.

It is therefore a largely fully automatic electronic service for measuring the online reputation of people. The algorithms that PeerIndex uses to build a person's reputation are not public.

PeerIndex

The PeerIndex (PeerIndex Score) scale ranges from 1 to 100 and is intended to reflect and document a person's “online reputation” (maximum value 100). Example: Barack Obama has a PeerIndex of 83. Michelle Obama has a PeerIndex of 91. One of the founders of PeerIndex, Azeem Azhar (CEO of PeerIndex), a score of 68.

method

Among other things, PeerIndex supposedly evaluates the number of friends, the activities and the number of recommendations in various social networks. The fewer activities and the lower the reaction to these activities, the lower the PeerIndex is. The registration on PeerIndex and the number of joint contacts listed on PeerIndex should also have a significant influence on the score.

The extent to which search engines will use the social network and PeerIndex or Klout as relevance providers for their own scores in the future is not yet foreseeable.

PeerPerks

PeerPerks are rewards for social activities (slogan PeerIndex: "Rewards for being social"). Interested companies can present users who are particularly attractive to them with discounts, raffles and other special offers and presumably want to benefit from the high social status of these users on the Internet in this way. These offers are currently aimed primarily at users in Great Britain and the USA.

criticism

  • By measuring the quantity of social network activity through PeerIndex, quality is largely neglected.
  • PeerIndex also measures the score of non-registered people.
  • PeerIndex also evaluates non-existent persons ( pseudonyms ) if they appear on the network. A pseudepigraphy is not recognized by PeerIndex. You can only register with PeerIndex with a functioning e-mail address or via a social network, which, however, is not verified personally .
  • Due to the unknown ratings and the focus on the English-speaking network (UK and USA), PeerIndex is not representative of a person's real reputation in the Internet community.
  • PeerIndex is a service provider within the meaning of the European Directive 2000/31 / EC. PeerIndex does not publish any information on the "PeerIndex.com" website that would enable the user to contact the service provider quickly and to communicate with him directly and efficiently (for example on the legal form of the company, responsible management, supervisory authority, company register number, etc.) and has only been giving a physical address since spring 2013.
