The direction finding or the bearing ( Low German from medium latin Pagella "yardstick" etymologisch related to " level ") can be defined as:

  • a measurement or orientation:
    • an angle measurement in the navigation, see bearing
    • coll. a measurement with a sextant
    • a “sharp eye” of an object, see focus
    • Expression of disorientation - losing your bearings
  • Synonym for level :
    • the implementation of the water survey
    • the measurement of the water depth
    • Determination of the liquid level (volume) in a tank by length measurement and calculation (if necessary with the help of dip plates)
