The whip light is the design of a light pole in street lighting .

At the upper end of the mast, a whip-shaped bracket that gives it its name is used to position the light source . This means that the area to be illuminated can be better covered while the mast is located outside this area and thus does not have a disruptive effect. For this reason, modern street lighting is largely designed in this way. However, there are also higher costs associated with this type.
