Pad

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The pelotte (French la pelote = the ball) is a ball-shaped, mostly hemispherical object (or pad ) that is usually used for medical purposes to compress or compress or hold away tissue .

Attached to a hernial ligament , the pad serves to prevent abdominal organs from escaping into the hernial sac by applying pressure to the hernial port . With a pad attached to an X-ray fluoroscopy device, the abdomen is compressed during the fluoroscopic examination of the intestine in order to reduce the fluoroscopic path through the body and thus to be able to depict the target organ better and more sharply.

In foot orthopedics , the pad is used to support splayfeet . The pad is either built into insoles , wrapped around the metatarsus as a bandage or mounted on the shoe as an adhesive pad.

When treating scoliosis with an orthosis (corset), pads are used at the straightening points.

The adjective "pelotty" (sometimes "pelotty" is erroneously used) describes the hemispherical impression of a hollow organ by another organ or a tumor in a medical examination . For example, in a gastroscopy, the stomach may be pelotted by an enlarged spleen, or in an X-ray examination of the urinary bladder, it may be pelotted by the uterus . In the case of a herniated disc , the dural sac can be pelotted.
