The Pelseneer Island ( French Île Pelseneer ) is a 3 km long and 1.5 km wide island off the Danco coast of Graham Land in the north of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 3 km west of Brooklyn Island in Wilhelmina Bay . A special feature of this island are three rocky outcrops that protrude from the ice sheet.
Participants in the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) of the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery discovered the island. He named it after the Belgian zoologist Paul Pelseneer (1863-1945), a member of the expedition committee and author of some of the zoological reports on the research trip .
