Pemba Dorjee Sherpa

Pemba Dorjee Sherpa is a Nepalese Sherpa who works as a high altitude sherpa for Himalayan expeditions. He is considered to be the fastest climber of Mount Everest . After he reached the summit on May 23, 2003 via the southern route after 12 hours and 46 minutes, this speed record was broken just three days later by Lhakpa Gelu Sherpa (10 hours and 46 minutes). On May 21 of the following year, at the age of 27, Pemba Dorjee covered the distance from base camp to the summit in 8 hours and 10 minutes. However, there are no eyewitnesses for this record as Pemba Dorjee was out alone that day. Only its start time is clearly documented. At the summit he made radio contact with the liaison officer in base camp and described objects that had been left behind by other mountaineers on the summit the day before. The record was then questioned by its predecessor. However, after an investigation by the Nepalese Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, it was officially recognized.
