Penny Arcade is an English language webcomic and blog primarily devoted to computer and video games, written by Jerry Holkins and illustrated by Mike Krahulik .

Penny Arcade is one of the most popular webcomics on the net. The first comic was published on November 18, 1998, making Penny Arcade one of the oldest still regularly updated web comics. New comic strips appear every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the moment.

The comic is about the authors' two alter egos , Tycho Brahe and Jonathan Gabriel ("Gabe"). The two characters spend a lot of time consuming and commenting on computer and video games, another main topic on the strips is their disputes. Often, however, the strips also refer to everyday things, such as other websites, family get-togethers and the like.

Krahulik and Holkins both make a living on Penny Arcade, which means they put all of their time into this site. Donations were previously accepted, but now the site is solely responsible for advertising and sales promotion . The website is visited by several thousand people every day, which makes it a successful internet presence.

Closely linked to the blog and comic Penny Arcade is the Penny Arcade Expo , which was also founded by Krahulik and Holkins and is now the second largest game fair in the USA after E3 .

A series of computer role-playing games about Penny Arcade Adventures called On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness has been released for Linux , Mac OS X , Windows , as well as Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network . The series was initially discontinued after two episodes, but was revived in 2012 with a third episode that abandoned the previous design and instead adopted the style of classic SNES role-playing games.

Anthologies

The Penny Arcade comic strips have also been published in book form since 2006. Each anthology includes the strips of an entire year, each supplemented by comments from the makers.
