Pentair is an Irish conglomerate based in Dublin with headquarters in London . Among other things, the company produces components and housings for the energy sector, the beverage and food sector, for the industrial sector and for the telecommunications sector. The company is also active in the field of fire protection as well as heating and water technology. The company's shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange and are included in the S&P 500 . In Germany the company is represented by its subsidiary Pentair Schroff .
history
The company was incorporated in the United States on August 31, 1966 as Pentair Industries . Since the company had five founders, the name Pentair (penta = Greek for five) was chosen. On December 6, 1966, the company went public. On June 3, 1968, the company entered the paper business by taking over Peavey Paper Mills. In 1981 Porter-Cable, a supplier of power tools, was taken over, which was sold to Stanley Black & Decker in 2004 along with the entire power tool division with the brands Porter-Cable, Delta Machinery and DeVilbiss Air Power . In the same year, Pentair took over Wicor Industries and thus expanded its water division.
In 2012, Pentair merged with the former Tyco Flow Control division of Tyco International with pump and filter technology, valve and drive technology, trace heating systems as well as switch cabinet and housing technology. The new company will keep the name Pentair, will be based in Schaffhausen , Switzerland and 52.5 percent will be owned by Tyco shareholders; the rest are held by the previous Pentair shareholders.
In May 2014, Pentair shareholders decided to move the headquarters from Schaffhausen to Dublin in Ireland . The reason is the deterioration in the legal framework in Switzerland due to the rip-off initiative and the initiative against mass immigration . The relocation of the registered office was completed on June 3, 2014 with the entry in the commercial register.
