Pentapody

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pentapodie ( Greek  πεντάπους pentapous fünffüßig) is in the Verslehre a five Versfüßen existing metric unit, in particular, such a meter . The term is not very common, as the term pentameter is used for those verse feet where the metron and the verse foot coincide . For feet with dipody , in which the metron consists of two feet ( i.e. iambus , trochaeus and anapaest ), a metric unit consisting of five feet can also be called a brachycatalectic trimeter .

In the works of August Rossbach and Rudolf Westphal on Greek metrics, the term pentapody is used throughout , if it is not about the dactylic pentameter .

In the accentuating metric of modern languages like German, the pentapody corresponds to the five-pointers .
