People's Heritage Party

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The People's Heritage Party ( PHP ) was a political party in Ghana .

Politically, like the People's National Convention (PNC) and the National Independence Party (NIP), in public opinion the PHP was a continuation of the political tradition of the first President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah .

history

With the fourth and current constitution of Ghana , political parties were allowed in Ghana after the military junta of Jerry Rawlings in 1992.

The PHP was founded under the chairmanship of Lieutenant General (retired) Emmanuel Alexander Erskine , who still holds the chairmanship. In the founding year, the PHP boycotted the elections to the Ghanaian parliament. In the same year Erskine ran as chairman of the PHP for the office of president and was clearly defeated by the former dictator and later President Rawlings.

In 1993 the PHP merged with the NIP to form the People's Convention Party .
