Pepsi Invaders

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pepsi Invaders , also known as Coke Wins , is an adapted version of the Space Invaders game for the Atari 2600 . Atari made it exclusively for Coca-Cola employees . With a circulation of 125, it is one of the rarest games for the Atari 2600 and in October 2005 a copy on Ebay fetched $ 1,825.

At the height of the Space Invaders craze, Coca-Cola asked Atari if they could program a special version for attendees at a conference of senior Coca-Cola employees in 1983. The programmer was Christopher Omarzu.

Instead of the aliens attacking in Space Invaders, the ranks of the attackers consist of the letters P E P S I and a spaceship. The bonus ship that occasionally flies across the screen has replaced Atari with a Pepsi logo.

Unlike the original, the player in Pepsi Invaders has unlimited lives, but has to overcome a time limit. The player only has three minutes in which he has to shoot down as many enemy spaceships as possible and complete as many levels as possible. If the enemy spaceships reach the bottom row of the screen, the player does not lose any life, they simply stay there and can continue to be shot down. After the three minutes have elapsed, the game ends and the message "Coke Wins" appears on the screen.
