Periplast

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Periplast is as cell envelope formed layer of protoplasm , especially at flagellates , in a similar form as well as in bacteria or as periplasmischer Cortex at Acantharia . It serves as the outer skin around the cell.

Flagellates

The periplast is a layered cell envelope, species that have periplasts have no cell walls . It consists of an inner and an outer periplastic component made of proteins. In between lies the cell's plasma membrane . Often both peripheral components show fine structures, for example in the Cryptophyceae . The inner periplastic component can for example consist of polygonal plates, overlapping rectangular plates or of a continuous layer. The outer periplastic component can also be composed of plates or rosette scales and fine fibrils.,

In some species, such as gold monads of the genus Synura , gravelly scales or calcareous bodies bear as deposits or, less often, as deposits. Periplasts are also found in bacteria , for example in spirochetes .,

Acantharia

In Acantharia, the periplasmic cortex, the outermost layer of the cell, consists of twenty polygons that are elastically connected to one another and that are mounted around their spines.
