Peroidas (son of Menestheus)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peroidas ( Greek  Περοίδας ), son of Menestheos, was a Macedonian equestrian general and companion ( hetairos ) of Alexander the great in the 4th century BC.

During the Asian campaign, Peroidas led the battle of Issus in 333 BC. BC as ilarchos the squadron of the Hetairenreiterei , which was recruited from Anthemous . Together with Pantordanos he is the only squadron leader who is mentioned by name at Issos. Your two squadrons were regrouped from the left to the right wing shortly before the start of the battle.

Both Periodas and Pantordanos are no longer mentioned after Issus. Because in Gaugamela 331 BC BC all eight squadrons of the Hetairenreiterei were manned by other officers, it is assumed that both fell at Issus.
