Waldemar Heckel

Waldemar Heckel (* 1949 in Bad Königshofen im Grabfeld ) is a Canadian ancient historian .

Heckel completed his master's degree in 1973 and received his doctorate from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in 1978 . His dissertation on the "marshals" of Alexander the Great also formed the basis for his 1992 work on this topic. Heckel is internationally recognized as an Alexander researcher and has published numerous publications on this, some of which are fundamental. His research also focuses on ancient Greek historiography and ancient military history .

Heckel taught as Professor of Ancient History at the University of Calgary until his retirement in late 2013 .
