Persian march

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Persian March is a march by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 289). The work was first performed in Pavlovsk on July 11, 1864 .

Remarks

The march was written in the summer of 1864 during the composer's annual trip to Russia. The composer used a Persian melody in the trio and dedicated the march to the Persian Shah Nāser ad-Din Schāh . In return he received a Persian order. In Russia, the march was the most popular Strauss work of the 1864 guest performance. In Vienna, success was rather hesitant. Today the march is one of the pieces by Johann Strauss (son) that is repeatedly played.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 1 minute and 52 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
