Fraternization March

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fraternization March is a march by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 287). The work was performed for the first time on April 11, 1864 in the Royal Theater in Berlin.

Remarks

The march came about against the backdrop of the German-Danish War , in which Austria took part on the side of Prussia. On this occasion, Johann Strauss also composed the Saison Quadrille (op. 283) and the German Warrior March (op. 284). The fraternization march is intended in particular to remind of the alliance treaty (fraternization) between Prussia and Austria. On the way to his annual trip to Russia, the composer made a stopover in Berlin. There he presented a collection of his compositions to the Prussian King Wilhelm I. On April 11, 1864, Johann Strauss conducted a charity concert for war invalids in the Royal Theater. On this occasion, the Fraternization March dedicated to the Prussian king was premiered. In return he received a Prussian order.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 58 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
