Season quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The seasonal quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 283). It was first performed on May 5, 1864 in Pavlovsk , Russia.

Remarks

The quadrille, which was composed from the music of stage works from the Viennese theater season 1863-64, was created in Vienna and was intended for a charity ball in the Redouten Hall of the Hofburg . The proceeds from the ball were intended to benefit the Austrian soldiers who were deployed in Schleswig-Holstein during the German-Danish War . The date of the ball in the Hofburg was postponed and Johann Strauss had to leave for his contractually agreed trip to Russia. He took the quadrille there and performed it on May 5, 1864 in Pavlovsk. The Quadrille was performed in Vienna in September 1864. Subsequently, the work was rarely played, if at all, and was forgotten. This was also due to the large number of such works by the composer, which displaced each other from the concert programs.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 38 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
