Quadrille sur des airs français

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Quadrille sur des airs français is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 290). It was first performed on September 19, 1864 in Pavlovsk , Russia.

Remarks

This quadrille was created in 1864 during the composer's annual trip to Russia. It was originally called the Blondin Quadrille . It was named after a well-known French tightrope walker named Charles Blondin (1824-1897). He boasted that he had crossed Niagara Falls on a tightrope. Also in the summer of 1864 Blondin made a guest appearance in St. Petersburg . The Viennese composer used the artist's success and popularity for a quadrille named after him, which he created from French melodies such as B. composed of the children's song Bon voyage, Monsieur du Mollet or the Monsieur le Cure . In Vienna the title was then changed to its current somewhat pompous name. This quadrille is not one of the composer's great successes.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 53 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
