Bal champêtre

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bal champêtre is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 303). It was first performed on September 14, 1865 in Pavlovsk , Russia.

Remarks

This quadrille was created during the composer's trip to Russia in 1865. It was compiled from French melodies and premiered on September 14th. In Vienna, the work was performed on November 12, 1865 in the Volksgarten on the occasion of a concert by the Strauss brothers Josef and Eduard . Subsequently, the work was rarely played, if at all, and was forgotten. This was also due to the large number of such works by the composer, which displaced each other from the concert programs.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 48 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
