Pestalozzi monument

The Pestalozzi-Anlage , informally also Pestalozziwiese, is a small park named after Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi on Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich's city center ( District 1 ).

The Pestalozziwiese was the place of execution for the city of Zurich until around 1860. In 1873 the Linth-Escher school building was built adjacent to the small park on Bahnhofstrasse. In 1899 Hugo Siegwart created a monument to Pestalozzis, which was erected in the complex.

In 1961 the school building was demolished and in 1968 the Globus department store was rebuilt , giving the green space its present-day appearance.

Since the Pestalozzi plant no longer met the current requirements, it should be redesigned. In May 2007 the winning project of a project competition was announced. New solutions should be found for traffic management around the facility. With reference to the financial situation of the city of Zurich, the renovation was postponed in 2014 because there was an urgent need for action.
