Pesther Czárdás

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pesther Czárdás is a composition by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 23). It was performed for the first time on June 16, 1846 in the Horvath Gardens in Ofen (now Budapest ).

Remarks

The work was created on the occasion of a guest performance by the young Johann Strauss in the Hungarian cities of Ofen (Buda) and Pest, which were to unite in the city of Budapest in 1872. With this composition, the composer paid homage to the Hungarian nation and at the same time proved that, in addition to the Viennese waltz and polkas, he also mastered Hungarian forms of music.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 26 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
