Ofri Nehemya

Ofri Nehemya (born January 10, 1994 in Giv'atajim ) is an Israeli jazz musician ( drums ).

Ofri Nehemya grew up in a family of musicians; his father was a drummer and his mother a singer. He started playing drums when he was three and quickly made himself felt as a child prodigy . From the age of eight, his father taught him for four years, then he received piano lessons for three years before continuing his education in the jazz department of the Thelma Yellin High School of Performing Arts (which previously also graduated from pianist Shai Maestro , with the he would work together later). Even in high school he played with some of Israel's leading jazz musicians such as Amos Hoffman , Omri Mor and the saxophonist Eli Degibri , to whose quartet he belonged at the age of 17, to be heard on the albums Twelve and Cliff Hangin ' .

Two years later, while studying at Berklee College of Music - for which he had received a full scholarship - he began touring with bassist Avishai Cohen and played on his album Almah (2013). He also introduced himself with his own quartet (with Yotam Silberstein, Julian Shore, Tal Mashiach; All Original 2014), with whom he also toured in Europe and performed at the Red Sea Jazz Festival 2014 . He also worked with Omer Avital , to be heard on his albums Abutbul Music (2015) and Qantar (2017), and with guitarist Shachar Elnatan. In 2018 he worked on Shai Maestro's ECM album The Dream Thief (with Jorge Roeder ). In the field of jazz, he was involved in six recording sessions between 2012 and 2018. In 2019 he also belongs to the Alexander Claffy Quintet (with Jeremy Pelt , Immanuel Wilkins and Takeshi Ohbayashi ) and the Simona Premazzi Quintet.
