Simona Premazzi

Simona Premazzi (born April 22, 1975 in Busto Arsizio ) is an Italian jazz pianist and composer .

Simona Premazzi grew up in rural northern Italy and began learning the piano at the age of nine. She attended the Music Conservatory in Udine ; then she studied in Milan at the jazz school and the CPM music school a. a. with Massimo Colombo and Franco D'Andrea . During this time she played with the student band Mingus Fingers Septet and was a member of Enrico Intras Big Band for four years , with whom she went on international tours.

In 2004 she moved to New York City, where she worked a. a. with Fred Hersch , Jason Moran , Jean-Michel Pilc , Harry Whitaker , Greg Osby , Seamus Blake , Wayne Escoffery , Dayna Stephens , JD Allen III , Jaleel Shaw , Rodney Green , EJ Strickland and played in various jazz clubs such as the Smalls or Dizzy's Club Coca Cola. In 2007 she presented the album Looking for an Exit (with Ari Hoenig and Joe Sanders ) with her own compositions and jazz standards . In 2010 the album Inside In followed , with Stacy Dillard , Ryan Berg and Rudy Royston . In 2013 the album The Lucid Dreamer (Inner Circle Music) was released, which she had recorded with Melissa Aldana , Ameen Saleem , Jochen Rückert and Greg Osby. Currently (2019) Premazzi leads a quintet that includes Brandon Lee , Mark Shim , Rick Rosato and Ofri Nehemya .
