Rick Rosato

Richard "Rick" Rosato (born July 3, 1988 in Montréal ) is a Canadian jazz musician ( double bass , composition ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Rosato, who grew up in his native city, first played in the local music scene; first recordings were made in 2006 with Katya Sourikova ( Angels & Satellites ) and with Franco Proietti Morph-tet . In 2007 he moved to New York City to study at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music with Larry Grenadier and Ari Hoenig until 2010 . In 2010 he curated a series of events at the Upstairs Jazz Club in Montréal for three months , where he played in various formations, such as the Trio Stranahan / Zaleski / Rosato with Colin Stranahan and Glenn Zaleski , with whom he also toured. In New York he worked on various projects a. a. with Ben van Gelder (with whose quintet he also went on tour), Gilad Hekselman , Joel Ross , Melissa Aldana , David Kikoski and Will Vinson . He has also appeared with Billy Hart , Peter Bernstein , Mark Turner , Dayna Stephens , Chris Potter , Aaron Parks , Bill Stewart , Marcus Gilmore , Jeff Ballard , Ari Hoenig, Mike Moreno , Lage Lund , The Bad Plus and Charles Altura . In 2014 he was awarded the Galaxie Jazz Award for best composition at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal . In the field of jazz he was involved in 16 recording sessions between 2006 and 2018, most recently with Rafał Sarnecki ( Climbing Trees ). Rosato lives in Brooklyn.
