Rafał Sarnecki (born December 11, 1982 in Warsaw ) is a Polish jazz musician ( guitar , composition ).

Live and act

Rafał Sarnecki worked in the Polish jazz scene from the early 2000s; first recordings were made in 2004, when he was in the backing band of singer Marzena Grzymała played (Pomarańczowe Szczęście) . In the following years he worked with Oktawia Kawecka and Paweł Kaczmarczyk ; In 2005 he moved (with a scholarship) to New York City ; He earned his bachelor's degree in the New School's Jazz & Contemporary Music Program , then a Master of Arts in Music Performance in the Graduate Jazz Program of Queens College at CUNY . In 2015 he received his PhD in composition from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. In 2008 he presented his debut album Songs from a New Place (ARMS) with his own compositions as a quartet (with Paweł Kaczmarczyk, Wojciech Pulcyn , Łukasz Żyta ) . Currently (2019) Sarnecki leads a sextet that includes Alex LoRe , Bogna Kicinska , Glenn Zaleski , Rick Rosato and Colin Stranahan .

In 2002 Sarnecki won 1st place at the International Jazz Guitar Competition - Guitar City in Warsaw. Sarnecki's debut album Song from a New Place (2008) was nominated for the Polish music award Fryderyk .
