Rudy Royston
Rudy Royston (* around 1970 in Fort Worth ) is an American jazz musician ( drums , composition ).
Live and act
Royston grew up as the youngest of five siblings in Denver, Colorado and began playing drums and percussion at an early age. He studied marching percussion, classical percussion and jazz at the University of Northern Colorado , the Metropolitan State College of Denver and the University of Denver , where he received his Bachelor of Arts in music and poetry. From the 1990s onwards, he first worked in the Colorado jazz scene; first recordings were made in 1991 with Fred Hess , Ron Miles and Art Lande ( Sweet Thunder ). In the following years he played a. a. with Laura Newman and Sam Coffmaan. In 2006 he moved to New York to do graduate studies at Rutgers University and the Mason Gross School of the Arts; He had lessons from Victor Lewis .
As of 2007, Royston was a member of JD Allen III's trio . He also played in New York in the bands of Ben Allison , Alex Norris , Dave Douglas , Aruán Ortiz / Michael Janisch , Mike DiRubbo , Steve Cardenas , Brian Landrus , Bill Frisell , Bruce Barth , Linda Oh , Tia Fuller , Jim Snidero , Michael Blake , Béla Szakcsi Lakatos , Rudresh Mahanthappa , Joe Magnarelli , Luis Perdomo , Doug Webb , James Brandon Lewis and George Colligan . Under his own name he presented the albums 303 and Rise of Orion . In the field of jazz he was involved in 81 recording sessions between 1991 and 2017. Royston lives in Piscataway Township in New Jersey.
