Brian Landrus (born September 14, 1978 ) is an American jazz musician ( baritone saxophone , bass saxophone, bass clarinet , flute, composition).

Live and act

Landrus grew up in Nevada and began playing the saxophone when he was twelve; He made his first professional appearances at the age of 15. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada-Reno , followed by two master's degrees from the New England Conservatory in jazz composition and jazz saxophone. He is currently (2017) doing his PhD in classical composition at Rutgers University . In 2007 he made his debut album Forward ( Cadence Jazz Records ), in which Allan Chase , John Lockwood , Bob Moses , Michael Cain , George Garzone and Jason Palmer were involved in different line- ups . In 2011 he released the album Traverse on his own label , which was composed in a quartet with Lonnie Plaxico , Billy Hart and Michael Cain, followed by the album Capsule (with Cain, Nir Felder , Matthew Paris , Rudy Royston ). In 2013 Landrus presented the production Mirage , with Felder, Royston, Plaxico, Frank Carlberg , a string quartet under the direction of Mark Feldman and with Ryan Truesdell as director and co-producer. In 2011 he also worked on Ryan Truesdell's production Centennial - Newly Discovered Works of Gil Evans and the live album Lines of Color (Live at Jazz Standard) . The discographer Tom Lord lists his participation in 17 recording sessions between 2001 and 2014, u. a. also with Rob Mosher , Nicholas Urie , Oded Lev-Ari , Christopher Zuar and the Ayn Inserto Jazz Orchestra. In 2017 he released the album Generations (BlueLand), followed by For Now (2020).

Brian Landrus was named Rising Star (baritone saxophone) in the Downbeat Critics' Poll in 2010, 2011 and 2012 .
