Jason Palmer

Jason Palmer (born February 14, 1979 in High Point , North Carolina ) is an American jazz trumpeter who also composes. According to Bayerischer Rundfunk, he is “one of the most promising trumpeters in recent jazz history. The musician, who has won several awards as an instrumentalist, plays with a clear, luminous tone and always amazes with surprising twists and turns. "
Live and act
Palmer studied at the New England Conservatory in Boston and during this time played in the local club Wally's Cafe , first at jam sessions and later as a member of the house band. After his graduation he worked a. a. with Roy Haynes , Benny Golson , Greg Osby , Ravi Coltrane and Kurt Rosenwinkel . In 2008 he presented his debut album Songbook , in 2009 he took part in the musical film Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench , in which he played a jazz trumpeter. In 2010 his album Nothing to Hide was released on SteepleChase Records , followed in 2011 by Here Today with saxophonist Mark Turner . On the album Take a Little Trip , he covers most of the soul singer Minnie Riperton ; at Wondaland he deals with the repertoire of pop star Janelle Monáe . In 2012 he performed in Europe with Matana Roberts . He also belongs to Michael Janisch's band .
Jason Palmer is an Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Prizes and awards
In 2007 Down Beat included him in the list of the Top 25 Trumpeters of the Future , and in 2009 Palmer won first prize at the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition . In 2011 he was an Artist Fellow in the Composition category of the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
