Ameen Saleem

Ameen Saleem (born July 2, 1979 in Washington, DC is an American musician ( double bass ) of modern jazz .

Saleem grew up in Washington, DC and initially played the French horn . He studied bass with the District of Columbia Youth Orchestra and at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts ( graduated in 1997). He completed his bachelor's degree in 2001 with honors (“ magna cum laude ”) from North Carolina Central University ; He received his Masters in 2005 from the Aaron Copland School of Music ( Queens College ). Since then he has worked in the New York jazz scene a. a. with Winard Harper ( A Time for the Soul , 2003), in Farnell Newton / Marcus Reynolds Quintet, Alvin Atkinson, Jr., Roy Hargrove , Mamiko Watanabe , Simona Premazzi , Chris Parker, Eric Wyatt , Frank Lacy and Sullivan Fortner . In 2013 he recorded his debut album The Groove Lab with musicians such as Roy Hargrove, Stacy Dillard , Cyrus Chestnut and Gregory Hutchinson . Saleem lives in Brooklyn, New York. In the field of jazz, he was involved in 16 recording sessions between 2003 and 2017, according to Tom Lord . In early 2020 Saleem also led a quartet that includes Josh Evans (trumpet), Tadataka Unno (piano) and Jason Brown (drums).

Saleem wrote parts of the music for the film "Ohrensausen" by Alessandro Aronadio .
