Takeshi Ohbayashi

Takeshi Ohbayashi ( Japanese 大林 武 ​​司 , Ōbayashi Takeshi , * around 1980 in Hiroshima ) is a Japanese jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

Takeshi Ohbayashi grew up in a musical family; he started playing the piano at the age of two and learned to trumpet as a child . He deepened the trumpet playing at the music high school in his hometown. Then he studied film music at Tokyo College of Music. During this time he began to occupy himself with the jazz piano and received a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston, which he completed from 2007 to 2010. In 2009 he received an award in the category of best musician at the Yokohama Jazz Competition . From 2009 Ohbayashi had lessons at the newly created Berklee Global Jazz Institute under the direction of Danilo Perez . In 2011 he moved to New York City, where he worked with his own trio and as co-leader of the New Century Jazz Quintet (with Ulysses Owens Jr. ), as well as with Takuya Kuroda, José James , Terri Lyne Carrington , Hailey Niswanger , Charles Turner III , Takuya Kuroda and Felix Peikli worked. He has also performed in well-known New York jazz clubs such as Blue Note , Jazz at Lincoln Center , Smalls and Smoke . In 2016 Ohbayashi won the Jacksonville Piano Competition , and the DCJazzPrix with the New Century Jazz Quintet at the Washington DC Jazz Festival. So far (as of 2018) he has released three albums under his own name. In 2018 he appeared at Smalls with Alon Near, Hailey Niswanger and Hillel Salem. In the field of jazz he was involved in ten recording sessions between 2009 and 2016.
