MK Wren
Martha Kay Renfroe (born June 5, 1938 in Amarillo , Texas ; died August 20, 2016 in Lincoln City , Oregon ) was an American writer who wrote under the pseudonym MK Wren . She published detective and science fiction novels.
Life
Renfroe studied arts and creative writing at the University of Oklahoma and eventually settled in Oregon, which she described as a new birth.
In 1973 she published her first novel, a detective story with Conan Joseph Flagg, bookseller and gentleman detective. A total of eight novels appeared in this series. The Phoenix Legacy , a science fiction novel of 500,000 words, was published in 1981, divided into three volumes. It is a 33rd century space opera . Another SF novel is A Gift Upon the Shore (1990), a post-apocalyptic novel in which two women, an artist and a writer, fight to preserve knowledge in the devastated world after World War III.
In 1996 she received the Northwest Writer Award .
Renfroe lived with artist Ruth Dennis Grover in an old house in Roads End on the Oregon Coast. In addition to her literary work, she has taught at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany , Oregon, and at Portland State University . In recent years she has devoted herself to caring for her friend Ruth, who is over 90 years old.
In 2016 she died at the age of 78.
