Takuya Kuroda ( Japanese 黒 田 卓 也 , Kuroda Takuya ; born February 21, 1980 in Ashiya , Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz trumpeter and arranger .

Live and act

Takuya Kuroda first played in the school's big band . He only gained more jazz experience when he went to Kobe for jam sessions . In 2003 he moved to the USA, where he first attended a course at Berklee College of Music before moving to New York. There he studied at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music until he graduated in 2006. Since then, Kuroda has worked in the local jazz scene; stylistically based on Dizzy Gillespie and Clifford Brown . His fellow student José James brought him to accompany him early on .

Kuroda's debut album While Bitter and High was released in 2010 . He worked u. a. with Junior Mance (piano), Greg Tardy (saxophone), Rob Swift (DJ), Jirō Yoshida (guitar), Andy Ezrin, Akoya Afrobeat and the Valery Ponomarev Big Band. He has also worked on albums by Jose James ( Blackmagic ) and Jiro Yoshida ( Cut Back , Made In New York ), China Moses , Matthias Bublath ( Eight Cylinder Bigband ) and the Japanese J-Pop musician JuJu ( Wonderful Life and My Life ), for which he arranged the wind section . Kuroda works with the band Chicken Gravy , which he also leads, a formation in the spectrum between jazz, soul and funk and a jazz quartet. In 2014 his CD Rising Son was released on Blue Note Records . The 2016 studio album Zigzagger was released on Concord Records . In 2019 Blue Note released the album Blue Note Voyage by Takuya Kuroda / Akihiro Nishiguchi / May Inoue / Jun Miyakawa / Ai Kuwabara / Ryuta Tsunoda / Tomo Kanno and Shun Ishiwaka.
