The Staupenbrunnen or Marktbrunnen is a listed fountain in the city of Merseburg in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it is listed as a monument with registration number 094 20230 .

History and architecture

On the orders of August von Sachsen , who was the administrator of the Merseburg bishopric at the time , a Renaissance- style fountain was built in 1545 . In 1681 the top of the fountain was renewed, with a Roland figure attached to the top of the fountain .

Naming

The term distemper goes back to a medieval legal act of referral. It was given the name Marktbrunnen due to its location on Merseburg's market square.
