The Wendenkopf nature reserve is located in the town of Schriesheim in Baden-Württemberg .
Characteristics
The area was designated as a nature reserve under the protection area number 2011 by ordinance of the Baden Ministry of Culture and Education from April 5, 1939. The CDDA code is 82894 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .
location
The protected area lies east of Schriesheim, it essentially covers the entire hilltop of the Wendenkopf . The NSG is completely enclosed by the approximately 6,500 hectare landscape protection area Bergstraße-Nord and also belongs to the FFH area Odenwald near Schriesheim . The protected area is in the natural area 144- Sandstone-Odenwald and 145- Vorderer Odenwald within the natural spatial main unit 14- Odenwald .
Protection purpose
The protection purpose is the preservation of a wooded, geologically remarkable mountain top, which consists of granite, porphyry tuff, quartz porphyry and red sandstone with different degrees of rock weathering from rubble to gravel and correspondingly different formation of the plant cover.
