The nature reserve Altenbachtal and Galgenberg lies in the area of the communities Malsch (near Wiesloch) and Mühlhausen (Kraichgau) and the city of Rauenberg in the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis in Baden-Württemberg .
The area extends south of the core town of Rauenberg and northeast of the core town of Malsch on both sides of the B 39 . The state road L 546 runs not far to the south .

For Malsch, Mühlhausen and Rauenberg, a 116.1 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve since December 21, 1998 under the identification number 2.215. These are "near-natural locations of the Waldangelbach and Altenbach floodplains and their peripheral areas as a prerequisite for the special, diverse wetland vegetation ."
- by shrubbery well-structured and hillside seepage and slope swell wet meadow areas ;
- dry slopes with a mosaic of semi- arid lawns , orchards , hedges , hillside terraces and loess slopes ;
- Forests with a high degree of near-natural and well-developed forest communities;

- a multitude of plant and animal communities bound to wet and dry biotopes .
