A secondary habitat (also secondary habitat or secondary habitat ) is a non naturally formed, but created by the human habitat , which has a habitat for one or more types representing. Secondary biotopes often offer alternative options for animals and plants from which their natural habitat - the primary biotope - is deprived elsewhere . Usually secondary biotopes are not created consciously for reasons of nature and species protection , but with different (often economic) objectives. Typical examples of secondary biotopes are:
- Sand pits
 - Dredging lakes and reservoirs
 - Quarries
 - Heaps
 - disused railway tracks
 - Fallows
 - Sewage fields
 - Garbage dumps
 - graveyards
