Wrisberg

Heinrich August Wrisberg (born June 20, 1739 in Sankt Andreasberg ; † March 29, 1808 in Göttingen ) was a gynecologist and from 1753 to 1758 director of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Georg August University of Göttingen .

In the five years of his tenure, the clinic's number of deliveries rose to 576, although the premises were still cramped. The entire clinic consisted of just two rooms, one for the women giving birth and another for the caretaker and his family. This facility was intended to train midwives and students. Under his predecessor Georg Roederer , there had been 232 births within his twelve-year term. As a student of Roederer, he became personal physician to the Prince of Nassau-Weilberg in 1792 . His successor was Friedrich Benjamin Osiander .

In 1805 Heinrich August Wrisberg became nominal professor of anatomy and headed the anatomical institute. But the surgeon Conrad Johann Martin Langenbeck (1776–1851) expressed dissatisfaction, and the expert Adolph Friedrich Hempel (1767–1834) described the situation as follows:

  1. The lack of Cadavern ,
  2. Errors regarding the use of the existing cadavers,
  3. Lack of preparations and mistakes in keeping them,
  4. Too much limited time to prepare,
  5. Mistakes regarding the cleanliness and the removal of the cadavers,
  6. Defects in the furnishing of the building and other necessary needs.

Wrisberg died 3 years later. Samuel Thomas Soemmerring was one of his students .

Wrisberg had been an extraordinary member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences since 1770 and a full member since 1776 .
