Johann Georg Roederer , French: Jean-Georges Roederer (born May 13, 1726 in Strasbourg ; † April 4, 1763 ibid) was a German surgeon and obstetrician .

Life

Johann Georg Roederer was after his medical training in Paris (1747), London (1748) and Leiden in the midwifery school in Strasbourg (founded 1728) as a student of Johann Jakob Fried (1689–1769) until 1750 active. He had used the time to write a dissertation on obstetrics. In 1750 he received his doctorate in Strasbourg. The English King and Elector of Hanover Georg II appointed him at the suggestion of Albrecht von Haller in 1751 as an extraordinary professor for obstetrics at the University of Göttingen . The Göttingen Accouchierhaus , which was set up in the same year, was attached to this.

He described the normal and irregular birth mechanism that became the basis for further research. The Roederer head posture was named after him. He achieved a high reputation for his publications, combined with his clinical work, which have been translated into several languages. He was made a member of the Paris Académie Royale de Chirurgie and in 1754 he was appointed full professor and personal physician to George II. Heinrich August Wrisberg was his successor .

family

His daughter was Caroline Friederike von Schlözer . Her younger sister Wilhelmine Dorothea Victoria (1756–1791) married the Jenenser anatomist Justus Christian von Loder (1753–1832).

Honors

He was an associate member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences since 1751 and a full member since 1760 .
