Steffen Martus (* 1968 in Karlsruhe ) is a German literary scholar and professor of modern German literature at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

Life

Steffen Martus studied German Philology , Social Studies , Philosophy and Sociology at the University of Regensburg from 1989 to 1994 . In 1998 he received his doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin , then was a postdoc at the DFG - Graduate College Coding of Violence in Media Change and research assistant at the Institute for German Literature. 2002 Martus was at the Humboldt University of Berlin the first holders of the Junior Professor of Modern German Literature at the Institute of German Literature (successor in 2007 Andrea Polaschegg ), 2006 he received before his Habilitation a professorship at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg as Professor of Modern German Literature Studies. In April 2007 he took over the chair for modern German literature / literary studies at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, succeeding Heinrich Detering . Since the summer semester 2010 he has been the founding owner of a newly established chair for modern German literature (18th century to the present day) at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

His main research interests include German literature from the 17th century to the present day, the interlinking of literature and the history of science, questions of literary theory (especially theories of authors and works), and the praxeology of the humanities and cultural studies.

Steffen Martus has been a literary critic for Die Zeit , the Süddeutsche Zeitung and Berliner Zeitung since 1997 . His biography about the Brothers Grimm , published in 2009, was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair 2010 prize in the category “ Non-fiction and essay writing ” . It describes the life story of the Grimm brothers "with high precision and great legibility" and captivates "with its sumptuous wealth of details," praised Hans-Albrecht Koch .

Steffen Martus is co-editor of IASLonline , member of the editorial board of Text + Criticism and (advisory board ) member of the Humanities Network for German Literature and Philology (or H-Germanistik - Network for literary scientific knowledge transfer) as well as the Research Center for Historical Epistemology and Hermeneutics Berlin .
