Pete Henderson

Pete Henderson (born February 18, 1895 in Arran , Ontario , † June 19, 1940 in Los Angeles , California ) was a Canadian racing car driver .

Career

Pete Henderson is one of the first known racing drivers from Canada. In 1914 he went to the USA and joined the top teams there to take part in races on wooden ovals. As Tom Alley's “Riding Mechanic” , he finished fifth on July 4, 1914 in the first 300-mile race on the Sioux City dirt track .

He drove his first own race in the AAA National Championship at Des Moines Speedway in 1915 for the Duesenberg team. In 1916 he was Eddie Rickenbacker's teammate in the Perst-O-Lite team in a Maxwell runner-up in Des Moines. In October 1917 he won the Holzoval race in Chicago. At the Indianapolis 500 , he won a place in the top ten in 1916 and 1920 .
