Peter Durand
Peter Durand (also Pierre Durand ; * 1766 ; † 1822 ) was a British trader. He received a patent for the tin on August 25, 1810 .
Building on Nicolas Appert's discovery of the preservation of food in glass vessels, Durand developed a process using cans in 1810.
However, Durand himself did not preserve food, but sold the patent to the British Bryan Donkin and John Hall, who founded a canning factory and sold their products to the British Army around 1813.
