Peter Gelhard Naturdärme is a family company founded in 1964 for the manufacture of natural casing products for sausage production. The company's customers are national and international companies in the meat processing industry, medium-sized sausage manufacturers and specialist meat wholesalers. The head office is in Ransbach-Baumbach in the Westerwald.

history

The family of the company's founder, Peter Gelhard, an old merchant family from Ransbach, had been running rennet production since 1825 , to which the trade in natural casings was later added. After the death of his father, Peter Gelhard went into business for himself and founded the company Peter Gelhard Naturdärme. The entry in the commercial register took place on March 10, 1964. Together with his wife Romy Gelhard, who died in 1992, he continued to expand the company and, since the 1980s, has also expanded international business relationships. Own production facilities in China and other European countries as well as a company for the procurement of raw materials for sheep intestines were set up in Australia.

Due to the growth of the company, a larger production area became necessary again. Additional areas were acquired in the industrial area in Ransbach-Baumbach and the company expanded to an area of 83,000 square meters, on which office complexes, storage and cooling halls and production areas were built by 1996.

On January 6, 2011, the roof of a warehouse built three years earlier collapsed because the condensation could not drain away and the weight could no longer be borne by the roof structure. There were no people in the building, but the total damage was approximately € 250,000.

The company management is shared between the founder, Peter Gelhard, and his son, Arnd Gelhard. Petra Gelhard-Fuchs, the daughter of the company founder, is responsible for central marketing.
