Peter George (referee)

Peter George (born April 27, 1945 ) is a former German basketball referee .

career

Originally from Mettmann  , George passed his A-referee exam in 1971, and in 1978 he was also appointed referee on behalf of FIBA . From 1995 he worked as a commissioner for FIBA. Between 1971 and his age-related retirement from the top division in 1997, George led around 830 games in the basketball league . There were also 233 national and 145 European cup matches. He was a referee at the European championship tournaments in 1985, 1987, 1993 and 1995. At the 1994 World Cup and 13 military World Cup tournaments, George led matches as well as three European Women's Championships.

He played basketball himself for ART Düsseldorf .

On a professional level, George first completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk, later he worked as a civil servant in the administration of the Bundeswehr .
